GameCube variation sells for thousands of dollars
A highly sought-after GameCube console has been sold for $7,500, one of several ultra-rare variants to fetch high prices this year.

A highly sought-after GameCube variation has just been sold for thousands of dollars, a testament to its rarity and exclusivity among collectors.
While regular Indigo or Jet Black GameCubes can be found at reasonable prices, some of the rarest models are out of reach for all but the most dedicated enthusiasts. These exclusive consoles often feature unique designs, colors, or branding that set them apart from more common versions. For serious collectors, acquiring one of these units is a challenge.
In Japan, several GameCube models were released as part of special bundles or promotions. One such example is the Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness bundle, which featured a basic Platinum Silver console with a custom faceplate adorned with Lugia's image. Another notable Japanese release was the Donkey Konga bundle, which had its own custom-branded faceplate.
The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles edition, however, stands out as one of the rarest and most valuable GameCube models. This limited-edition console is not only a unique color but also features a special design that sets it apart from more common versions. According to reports, this model was available in extremely small numbers, making it highly sought after by collectors.
This particular edition of the GameCube was reportedly released as a prize for a magazine sweepstakes and was limited to just 150 units. As an added touch, it features a distinctive Crystal White color that is unlike any other standard or optional console designs.
The rarest of GameCube consoles continue to fetch high prices on online marketplaces, with one recent sale reaching an astonishing $7,500. This year alone has seen two of these ultra-rare variants sell for over $5,000 each.
These consoles are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts due to their limited production runs. One such variant is the unboxed GameCube console currently listed on eBay for $3,750. It comes with a Game Boy Player and a copy of Crystal Chronicles, offering an exclusive gaming experience.
The Game Boy Player was a unique add-on that allowed the GameCube to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges directly on the TV. Although it was only available in Jet Black in North America, other colors were released in Japan, with Crystal White being one of the rarest and most coveted.
Another highly prized collector's item is the Heineken GameCube, which can be found on eBay for as much as $15,500. This console was part of a 2002 sweepstakes held by the Dutch brewer, limiting production to just 100 units.
The Japan-exclusive Gundam Char edition stands out due to its striking red console and controller design, bundled alongside a Game Boy Player. While not as rare or expensive as some other variants, it remains a unique and highly sought-after item among collectors and enthusiasts.
The GameCube's unique color variants have long been coveted by collectors, and one of the rarest is the mint green console, released in 2003 as part of a bundle with Tales of Symphonia for Japan and France.
This limited edition console has a production run of approximately 10,000 units, making it more accessible to new collectors compared to some other highly sought-after GameCube variants. In contrast, some unofficial releases, such as airbrushed movie tie-in game consoles from The Polar Express and The Incredibles, are extremely rare.
Old or unused GameCubes can still command a price, even if they're not among the rarest variants, making them a viable option for those looking to declutter their gaming collection.
