United Airlines Ends Flights to Tulum International Airport
United Airlines will discontinue all flights to Mexico's Tulum International Airport by the end of January.

Mexico's Tulum International Airport has suffered a significant blow as United Airlines announced it will be ending all flights to the airport by the end of January.
The airline confirmed on Friday that it would discontinue service from Newark Liberty International Airport and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, marking the complete withdrawal of United from the market. The last flight from Newark is scheduled for January 2, while non-stop service from Houston will cease after the January 4 flight.
Tulum International Airport was initially touted as a more convenient option for travelers heading to the region's resorts, compared to Cancun International Airport which is over two hours away by car.
However, it appears that demand has been disappointing, prompting multiple carriers to slash their service to the airport in recent months.
The decline in demand for flights to Mexico's Tulum airport has led several airlines to reassess their routes. JetBlue is the latest carrier to exit Tulum, joining a growing list of airlines that have reduced or eliminated service to the destination.
In addition to JetBlue, both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have significantly cut back their schedules to Tulum. For example, Delta will only offer flights from Atlanta this winter, down from multiple routes just a few years ago. Meanwhile, American still maintains flights from Dallas and Miami but has reduced its overall service to the airport.
The decline in demand for Tulum-bound flights is stark, with data showing that service to the airport will be down more than 50% compared to two years ago. This trend is reflected in Cirium's analysis of air travel patterns.
In a contrast to these cutbacks, United Airlines has announced plans to expand its presence at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The carrier will launch twice-weekly flights from SFO to Richmond and Norfolk airports in Virginia on March 28, marking the addition of two new transcontinental routes.
United Airlines has announced a significant expansion at its San Francisco hub, just days after revealing three new domestic routes from the Bay Area. The carrier is now adding two more transcontinental flights from SFO to Richmond and Norfolk airports in Virginia, which will launch on March 28.
These latest additions bring the total number of new routes from San Francisco to five in a short period, demonstrating the airline's commitment to growing its presence at this key West Coast hub. As part of its ongoing investment in the airport, United is also preparing to open a brand-new United Club later this year, which will feature an outdoor terrace for passengers.
The expansion comes as United continues to strengthen its network and offer more travel options to customers. With these new routes and amenities, travelers from San Francisco will have even more choices when planning their next trip.
