Delta Air Lines has filed plans to launch nonstop service from Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA), located outside Bentonville.

Flights are scheduled to begin in March 2027 and will be operated by a Delta Connection regional jet, providing passengers with a convenient option for travel between the two destinations. The new route is expected to connect Austin to northwest Arkansas, as well as parts of Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas that are relatively close to XNA.

The addition of this route marks another expansion in Delta's growing presence at Austin Bergstrom International Airport. The airline has been increasing its services from the airport, including a recent announcement about nonstop flights to Paris, which will begin in April. This new route is part of Delta's ongoing efforts to establish itself as a major player in the region.

The Northwest Arkansas National Airport is also an important hub for travelers heading to the University of Arkansas, making this new service particularly convenient for students and staff. With its location near several major cities, XNA offers easy access to parts of Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas, further expanding Delta's reach in the region.

Delta's expansion in Austin continues to gain momentum, with plans to operate up to 70 daily departures from the city's airport by March. This significant increase is a testament to the airline's growing presence in the region.

The growth of Delta's operations in Austin has been nothing short of remarkable, with peak daily departures increasing from 28 in 2019 to an expected 70 by March. According to Joe Esposito, Delta's chief commercial officer, this expansion will also lead to more itineraries with connections in Texas for passengers.

While Delta has made significant strides in Austin, the airline has been clear that it does not intend to establish a hub at the city's airport. Instead, its goal is to become the primary business carrier in Austin, surpassing other corporate carriers in the region.

Delta's expansion plans in Austin continue to take shape as the airline adds a new direct route to Northwest Arkansas. This latest move is part of Delta's commitment to growing alongside the Austin community and making travel more convenient for locals.

As the market leader at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Southwest Airlines also has ambitious plans in store for 2027. The carrier intends to offer its biggest schedule ever from AUS next year, a significant increase in flight offerings that will undoubtedly boost air travel options for passengers.

In addition to Delta's new route and Southwest's expanded schedule, the airport is set to welcome several other developments. One of these includes the opening of an inaugural lounge by Southwest Airlines, which will provide travelers with a comfortable space to relax before their flights. Meanwhile, Delta plans to establish a second Sky Club at AUS in the coming years, one that will be larger than its current facility.

Delta's expansion efforts are also contributing to air service growth in Northwest Arkansas, where the airline is launching a new route. This move comes on the heels of significant increases in total flights at XNA this year, with data from Cirium indicating a 28% jump in flights compared to two years ago.

Delta has significantly expanded its presence in Austin, a focus city for the carrier, by adding new routes to several key destinations. Notably, Delta's service to Bentonville is not limited to Austin alone; it also operates from five other airports that are major hubs for the airline.

These airports include Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA), demonstrating Delta's extensive network and connectivity options for its passengers.
