The Denver Broncos signed cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian to a one-year, $5.767 million restricted free agent tender this spring. That deal represented a short-term answer to maintain the proficient slot cornerback in Denver for one other season.
McMillian is now scheduled to grow to be an unrestricted free agent in 2027, although, and the staff had not begun contract extension talks as of earlier this month, in keeping with the Denver Post‘s Luca Evans. That would possibly change as coaching camp approaches in July.

Broncos coach Sean Payton stated “absolutely” when requested earlier this month if he’d prefer to maintain McMillian with the staff long-term.

When requested if the cornerback’s unsure contract status would possibly influence McMillian’s efficiency, Payton urged he might be solely targeted on soccer.
“I think he’s so focused on preparing to play and play well,” Payton said. “I’m sure he’ll compartmentalize that, and it will take care of itself very well. The stuff he’s putting on tape… It was his birthday the other day, and we played that interception [against Buffalo]. I told him, I said, ‘There will be a day you come to visit me, and I’ll be having applesauce. I won’t remember your name, but I’ll remember that play. You’re going to have to tell me your name, and I’m going to be able to tell you the play and the down and distance in the game.’ And he laughed. He’s doing real well.”

The Broncos have prioritized re-signing their key in-house free brokers, so it would not be surprising to see McMillian obtain a long-term extension within the coming months. The 26-year-old cornerback has totaled 24 cross breakups, seven sacks, six interceptions and 5 pressured fumbles over the previous three seasons (50 video games).
