TOKYO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Japan is predicted to present strategic alternatives for Malaysia to develop cooperation in the fields of the financial system, science and expertise, in addition to capability constructing.

These areas stay key nationwide priorities as Malaysia seeks to strengthen its competitiveness on the worldwide stage, stated Malaysia’s Ambassador to Japan, Datuk Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany.

He stated that Anwar’s visit from June 8-10 would witness the signing of 4 memoranda of cooperation and two letters of intent overlaying defence and regional safety, healthcare, power transition, environmental cooperation and better training collaboration between Malaysia and Japan.

“Malaysia and Japan are also expected to finalise a joint statement to translate the commitment of both countries’ leadership into elevating bilateral cooperation to a higher level, in line with the upgrading of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership,” Shahril Effendi informed the Malaysian media on the embassy right here on Monday (June 8).

The visit shall be Anwar’s first official visit to Japan since assuming workplace as Malaysia’s tenth Prime Minister in November 2022, having beforehand undertaken two working visits to attend the Commemorative Summit marking the fiftieth Year of Asean-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in 2023 and the Nikkei International Conference in 2024.

The visit, on the invitation of the Japanese authorities, will start with an official welcoming ceremony on the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan, adopted by a bilateral assembly between the delegations of each nations, to be led by Anwar and his Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi, he stated. – Bernama
