The App Store has kicked off a celebration of independent games this week, dubbed Indie Games Week. As part of the festivities, several notable titles are making their debut on iPhones and iPads. No Man's Sky is arguably the most anticipated among them.

After Hello Games successfully ported No Man's Sky to Mac in 2023, some team members claimed it was possible to run the game on an iPhone. This prediction has now come to fruition, with the iOS version of the game featuring all updates from the last decade.

The iPhone and iPad versions of No Man's Sky have some limitations compared to other platforms. Initially, players will not be able to access multiplayer or settlements on iOS or iPadOS. However, this is similar to the restrictions imposed on the Nintendo Switch port.

Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray has acknowledged that these features were eventually added to the Switch 2 version of the game based on player feedback and numbers. The studio has indicated that it will support iOS in a similar way, with access to multiplayer and settlements being unlocked at a later time.

To make the most of No Man's Sky on mobile devices, Hello Games has rebuilt touch controls specifically for the platform. Other features include TV casting, controller inputs, and mouse and keyboard support on iPad.

The game's system requirements are relatively modest, taking up less than 5GB of storage space on iPhone and iPad. According to Murray, this is unusual for PC and console games that have been ported to mobile devices, which often require the latest iOS hardware to run smoothly.

No Man's Sky is one of the highly anticipated titles joining the iPhone and iPad lineup this fall. The game will be available to try for free from October 28 onwards. Pre-orders are now open, giving gamers an early chance to secure a copy.

The iOS version of No Man's Sky has undergone significant optimization to ensure it runs smoothly on various devices. This is particularly noteworthy given the game's complexity and demanding graphics requirements. As a result, players can expect an immersive gaming experience without any major hiccups.

Other notable titles making their way to iPhone and iPad include Sifu, a fast-paced action game that requires quick reflexes and reactions. The iOS version boasts a reworked camera system and touch controls designed specifically for the mobile platform. This is essential for delivering seamless gameplay on smaller screens.

In addition to No Man's Sky and Sifu, several other indie games are being showcased as part of Indie Games Week. These include Vampire Crawlers, a strategic card game that challenges players to survive against hordes of enemies. Dome Keeper, a roguelite that combines mining and tower defense elements, is also making its mobile debut.

Titles like Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall, 9 Kings, and Little Kitty, Big City are already available on iPhone and iPad as part of Indie Games Week. App Store editors have curated additional indie games for Mac users, highlighting the diversity and richness of the gaming community.

The App Store has been celebrating the creativity and innovation of indie game developers through its Indie Games Week initiative. As part of this celebration, Apple's head of App Store Worldwide, Carson Oliver, highlighted the unique contributions of these developers in delivering fresh gameplay experiences to Apple users.

Indie games on the App Store showcase a wide range of creative risk-taking, from solo projects to larger studio endeavors. Whether it's a small team or an individual developer, the App Store provides a platform for bold ideas to reach a global audience and achieve success.

The celebration of indie games this week is a testament to their ability to push boundaries and deliver unique gameplay experiences that captivate users worldwide.
