Heavy flooding and landslides triggered by Hurricane Simon and the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel have left six people dead along Mexico's Pacific coast. Authorities confirmed the rising death toll on Tuesday, as the storm continues to bring heavy rain to the region.

The hurricane has been slowly moving off Mexico's Pacific coast as a Category 1 storm, causing widespread flooding in the states of Nayarit and Sinaloa. Residents are on high alert for rising rivers and potential flash floods, with authorities working to mitigate the damage.

The worst-hit area is the coastal city of Ensenada in Baja California, where the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel have caused catastrophic flooding. At least five people have lost their lives in the disaster, including a 13-year-old girl whose body was found on Sunday.

A search for more victims continues, with authorities still looking for at least five missing individuals in Baja California, including three in Ensenada and two who went fishing but never returned to shore.

Rescue efforts are underway along Ensenada's El Pipila stream, where about 300 military personnel, police and rescue workers were deployed on Tuesday to search for missing individuals.

The flooding in Ensenada has caused significant damage, with vehicles swept away and homes damaged as floodwaters cut off access to some communities. Residents report that the heavy rain knocked out electricity overnight, triggering the flooding. One resident described hearing a loud noise similar to ocean waves but much more intense.

In another area near Ensenada, Mexican soldiers used helicopters to rescue 32 people from Rancho Genesis, a camp for orphans staffed by missionaries. Among those rescued were 13 minors and 22 foreign nationals, including Americans and Germans, according to the Baja California Security Secretary Gen. Laureano Carrillo.

The remnants of Hurricane Simon are continuing to bring heavy rainfall to Mexico's Pacific coast, with Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa expected to experience further rain. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reports that Simon is centered about 180 kilometers west of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph.

Heavy rainfall from Hurricane Simon has caused widespread damage in southern Guerrero state, where trees have been toppled and utility poles have come crashing down.

The storm's impact has also led to flooding in coastal communities, including the popular resort city of Acapulco, with Governor Evelyn Salgado confirming that a wall collapsed in Chilpancingo, the state capital, resulting in one fatality. The victim was identified as a 71-year-old individual who lost their life when the wall gave way.

As conditions begin to improve in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, residents are slowly resuming normal activities following the storm's passage, with schools set to reopen on Tuesday and airport operations gradually returning to normal.
