A Chinese chip pioneer who made his identify in Japan – sweeping its high awards and growing the core elements of the world’s most superior manufacturing line – has returned to China, together with his group of researchers.
Da joined Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in 2013 – when he arrived as a postdoctoral pupil after finishing his PhD at USTC. He stated in an interview printed on May 20 by Chinese information web site Deeptech that his objective was very clear.
If he might carry China’s semiconductor tools, supplies and elements up to worldwide requirements, “I believe my lifelong efforts will be worthwhile,” he informed the web site affiliated with MIT Technology Review.
Before securing his new place, Da had already begun assembling a group at NIMS composed of fellow USTC graduates, with the plan of finally bringing them again to China as a unit upon his return, he stated.

Da was the youngest unbiased principal investigator in NIMS’ historical past and, since 2022, was one of many few Chinese researchers to have been deeply concerned in front-line worldwide semiconductor trade initiatives.
