Breakfast Deals on Fast-Food Menus Attract Price-Conscious Customers
Fast-food chains are offering breakfast deals and value meals to attract customers during the morning rush, with prices ranging from $6 to nearly $12.

The latest trend in fast food is the proliferation of breakfast deals and value meals on menus, as chains try to attract price-conscious customers during the morning rush. This has led to a competitive landscape where each chain is trying to outdo its rivals with affordable and tasty options.
In this ongoing battle for market share, five major fast-food chains - McDonald's, Taco Bell, Wendy's, Burger King, and Dunkin' - have been vying for customers' attention with their breakfast offerings. To see which one comes out on top in terms of taste and value, I visited each of these establishments to sample their breakfast combos.
The meals offered at each location ranged from around $6 to nearly $12, and included a breakfast sandwich, a drink, and a side item such as hash browns or fries. The goal was to find the best balance between quality and affordability, with a focus on whether the food lived up to its price tag.
My first stop was McDonald's, which has long been known for its breakfast menu. However, this reputation may be due in part to the fact that many locations offer a $5 "Extra Value" meal deal featuring a Sausage McMuffin with Egg, a small coffee, and a hash brown.
At McDonald's, I tried their signature coffee, which is often praised by fans of the chain. Unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming - the coffee had a slightly burned taste that didn't quite live up to its reputation.
A change of pace at McDonald's caught my attention, as I opted for the Sausage McMuffin with Egg instead of a plain Egg McMuffin on a recent visit. The toasted English muffin was topped with an egg, cheese, and sausage, giving it a substantial boost in flavor compared to its simpler counterpart.
The addition of sausage proved to be a game-changer, as it added a pleasant spice to the sandwich without sacrificing texture like the Canadian bacon did in the Egg McMuffin. The cheese also helped balance out the dryness of the English muffin, making for a more satisfying bite.
One component that truly stood out was the hash brown, which I found myself obsessing over despite being a relatively simple side dish. Its crispy exterior and fluffy interior made it a delight to eat, with just the right amount of saltiness to enhance its flavor.
I gave the Sausage McMuffin with Egg a well-deserved 10 out of 10, impressed by how all the ingredients came together in harmony. The hash brown's perfect crispiness was the icing on the cake, leaving me eager for more.
Moving on from McDonald's, I visited Dunkin' to try their breakfast meal, which is served all day long. This deal comes with a sandwich, drink, and side of hash browns, providing excellent value for those looking for a filling start to their day.
My choice of an iced coffee was a no-brainer given the warm weather in New York, and adding hazelnut and pumpkin syrups gave it a delightful seasonal twist. The croissant I opted for as my bread choice turned out to be perfectly flaky, complementing the flavorful sandwich nicely.
The texture of the croissant I had at this fast-food chain was spot on, with a lovely balance between crunch and flakiness.
It complemented the flavors of the egg sandwich perfectly, which was a pleasant surprise considering it wasn't the most expensive option.
While not the best egg sandwich I've ever tasted, it was certainly satisfying given its affordable price tag.
The accompanying hash browns were another story altogether - they were salty, crispy, and subtly seasoned, but unfortunately, there just weren't enough of them.
It's worth noting that Dunkin' didn't respond to a request for comment regarding the portion size of their side dishes.
Moving on to Taco Bell, I ordered a coffee, a Breakfast Crunch Wrap, and two Cinnabon Delights as part of my breakfast combo.
My experience with Taco Bell was so satisfying that I was eager to move on to Wendy's for breakfast.
Wendy's has a unique approach to serving breakfast, as they stop offering it in the morning and instead focus on lunch and dinner items.
However, if you're lucky enough to arrive before their breakfast cutoff time, you can still order from their limited selection of breakfast items.
One such item is a sausage-and-cheese English muffin, which I opted for along with an egg-and-cheese biscuit as part of my two-item order.
To make the most of my meal, I specified that I wanted half and half in my coffee on the app.
However, when I received my drink, it was served black with small packets of creamer instead.
The next meal to be tried was Burger King's breakfast offering, which consisted of a small coffee, a breakfast sandwich, and an order of potatoes.
Burger King's menu includes a variety of breakfast items such as sausage, egg, and cheese Croissan'wiches and ham, egg, and cheese Croissan'wiches. These sandwiches are essentially breakfast fare served on a croissant, a flaky pastry that adds a unique twist to the traditional breakfast sandwich.
However, the coffee served at Burger King was found to be overly sweet, with an artificial taste that was unpleasant. Despite specifying no sugar, the coffee still had a sugary flavor profile that detracted from its overall quality.
The breakfast sandwich ordered from Burger King consisted of bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant, but upon trying it, the reviewer felt that the bacon was overpowering. In fact, the bacon was so dominant that it overwhelmed the other flavors in the sandwich, making it less enjoyable than it could have been.
Fortunately, removing the bacon allowed the reviewer to appreciate the egg and cheese more, which were both well-cooked and flavorful. The potatoes served on the side were a highlight of the meal, with their unique shape and crunchy texture making them a pleasant surprise.
The reviewer noted that Burger King did not respond to a request for comment regarding the breakfast offerings, leaving unanswered questions about the quality control measures in place at the chain.
Taco Bell surprised me with its breakfast offerings, ranking second-best among the five fast-food chains I visited.
The Breakfast Crunchwrap stood out as the most unique sandwich of all the ones I tried, and it was a real winner in my book.
In addition to the tasty sandwich, Taco Bell's coffee was also impressive, earning it a spot above Dunkin' in this regard.
Wendy's took third place, not only because it was the cheapest option but also due to its delicious potatoes and biscuit sandwich.
The meal at Wendy's would have been even more affordable if I hadn't ordered an extra cup of coffee.
McDonald's came in fourth, ahead of Burger King thanks to its relatively lower price point and improved Sausage McMuffin with Egg.
While the hash brown remained a highlight from my previous visits, McDonald's still didn't quite hit the mark on their coffee.
Burger King ranked last, with everything almost being perfect but ultimately falling short due to minor flaws such as overly sweet coffee.
