President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to an "energy ceasefire as part of their ongoing conflict. However, there was no confirmation from Moscow regarding this alleged agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he learned about the supposed ceasefire through media reports.

Zelenskyy's statement contradicts Trump's claim, suggesting that Ukraine may not have been informed or involved in negotiations leading to such an agreement. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported continued Russian attacks on their country's energy facilities. These strikes seem to contradict any notion of a ceasefire.

Trump previously made a similar announcement about an energy ceasefire a month ago, but it had no impact on the ongoing aerial attacks by both sides. On Sunday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. He did not provide any further details or explanation of what this supposed agreement entails.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov downplayed Trump's announcement of an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, stating that contacts are ongoing without offering further explanation.

The sudden shift in rhetoric from Trump has left Kyiv and its European allies bewildered, following a dramatic few days marked by a diesel deal with the Kremlin. In this agreement, Trump secured a commitment for Russia to release 300,000 tons of diesel to the global market immediately", followed by 500,000 tons in November and another million after that.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has reiterated his willingness to halt strikes on Russian refineries if the Kremlin halts its own attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. He urged Russia not to retaliate against Ukraine, saying "Don't attack us".

As tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate, Trump made a surprising claim that both parties have agreed to an energy ceasefire. However, this assertion is at odds with reports from Kyiv, which indicate that strikes against Ukrainian targets are ongoing.

Zelenskyy responded to these claims by emphasizing the importance of allowing Ukrainians to choose their own leader, rather than being dictated to by external forces. He also pointed out that Putin's desire for regime change in Ukraine is a key driver of the conflict.
