HOUSTON – While attending a University of Houston luncheon with the Touchdown Club of Houston, Cougars head coach Willie Fritz did greater than present an replace on the staff forward of the 2026 season.
After Texas Tech football handled former quarterback Brendan Sorsby declaring for the NFL Supplemental Draft amid backlash over being allowed to take part in the upcoming season after admitting to gambling on video games in which he performed, Fritz made it clear he steadily speaks along with his quarterbacks about avoiding gambling altogether.

“I talked about it this morning in our team meeting, as a matter of fact. I mention it about once or twice a week,” Fritz mentioned. “You know, it’s tough. I don’t know how many times I’ve called into a radio show and they’re talking about the line while I’m on hold waiting to get on. I mean, 50 times. So, you’ve got to remind your guys over and over and over again about this because it’s a big deal.”
The Cougars will enter the season with two five-star quarterbacks on their roster: returning starter Conner Weigman and Keisean Henderson, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2026.
Fritz mentioned the 2 quarterbacks have developed a powerful relationship and that Henderson is studying all the things he can from Weigman, who’s projected to be the staff’s starter this season.
The Cougars open the season Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. at house towards Oregon State.
