The UConn men's basketball team has passed its first major test of the season, emerging victorious in a closely contested match against Michigan at The TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

In a rematch of last April's title game, the Huskies successfully defended their court against the Wolverines, winning 85-77. Silas Demary Jr. led his team to victory with an impressive performance that included 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Michigan had managed only two points when they met UConn in the title game last April, but this time around Elliot Cadeau was a more formidable opponent, putting up seven points despite struggling from the field on 3-11 shooting.

UConn's offense found its rhythm midway through the first half, thanks in part to Braylon Mullins' hot shooting. The sophomore scored six of UConn's first 10 points and brought a level of emotion that was unseen before.

Michigan's initial momentum was short-lived as UConn took control of the game. The Huskies' perimeter length caused problems for Michigan, forcing tough shots that were often difficult to make. Meanwhile, Demary Jr.'s three-point shooting kept the game competitive.

UConn struggled with fouls throughout the first half, committing 10 team infractions before the midway point. However, Mullins' scoring helped offset some of the damage done by Michigan's early success on the boards. The Huskies were unable to create much separation from the Wolverines until a crucial stretch in the latter part of the half.

Michigan's free throw shooting was another factor that kept them in contention. Despite being outshot, they managed to stay within striking distance due in part to their ability to convert from the charity stripe.

As the second half got underway, UConn's lead seemed secure after a scorching 9-0 run had given them a 13-point cushion at halftime.

However, this surge masked deeper issues within the Huskies' offense, which lacked cohesion and direction without their star player on the court.

Despite having some key contributors in foul trouble, UConn managed to maintain their lead thanks in part to timely three-pointers from Jayden Ross, who sank two crucial shots to extend the margin.

Meanwhile, Landrew continued to impress with his aggressive playmaking, using his downhill drives to put pressure on the rim and keep the Wolverines at bay.

UConn's defense was able to withstand Michigan's pressure, holding them off despite some inconsistency in their performance.

The turning point in the game came with over three minutes remaining on the clock, when UConn's lead became insurmountable for the Wolverines.

Michigan's McKenney finished with 22 points, narrowly missing out on a share of the team high that was held by Mullins at 23.
