President Donald Trump briefly derailed a sit-down with Joe Kernen, telling an aide off-camera to let the interview run lengthy as a result of the CNBC host has “been my friend for a long time.”
Kernen, who co-hosts Squawk Box, recorded an interview that aired throughout Thursday’s Fast Money. The CNBC speaking head started the interview by complimenting the president on the new Air Force One, which was given to Trump by the Qatari royal household. The president has stated he’ll take the aircraft with him when he leaves workplace.
“Pretty nice plane,” Kernen advised him.
Afterward, Trump famous that he and Kernen have identified one another for a while, since earlier than the president married First Lady Melania Trump:
TRUMP: You knew me a very long time earlier than I even considered operating. You knew me earlier than I even thought of operating for president.
KERNEN: I knew you earlier than you have been married to Melania, I believe.
TRUMP: That’s proper.
KERNEN: I used to be on the marriage ceremony.
Later on, when the president completed answering a query about AI, Kernen expressed concern about how far more time Trump had to converse:
KERNEN: We’re gonna attempt to do as a lot as we will.
TRUMP: You go forward. You go forward.
KERNEN: I hope that’s okay.
TRUMP [to aide]: If he wants a bit of extra time, simply calm down.
AIDE: Yup.
TRUMP: I’m not Kamala. They give them 4 minutes and so they begin screaming at him.
KERNEN: That housing invoice–
TRUMP: Don’t be nervous.
KERNEN: I’m solely within the Oval Office with–
TRUMP: He’s been my buddy for a very long time and he’s man, too.
