In May, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) college students represented their colleges and the board, showcasing their information at nationwide competitions centered on science and the expert trades and expertise.

From May 23 to 30, 5 SCDSB college students participated within the Canada-Wide Science Fair, representing Team Ontario. After two days of judging, STEM (science, expertise, engineering, and math) lab experiences on the University of Alberta, a STEM expo, and two days of public viewing, two SCDSB college students had been honoured with bronze medals of their classes. The medal recipients are:

  • Anne B. – Bear Creek SS, Petal to the Metal – utilizing Chlorella Algae to Remove Heavy Metals from Mining Runoff
  • Jasper C. – Cookstown PS, Follow the Light

On May 28 and 29, two SCDSB college students competed on the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), demonstrating their information and ability of their chosen classes. The SCNC is a multi-trade and expertise competitors for college students and apprentices throughout Canada, the place qualifying individuals acquire hands-on work expertise and showcase their abilities in expert commerce and expertise careers to a big panel of industry-recognized judges and employers. Two SCDSB college students had been acknowledged with gold medals of their competitors areas:

  • Peyton M-P., Banting Memorial HS – gold in Car Painting (teacher-coach Scott Fuller)
  • Sam C., Collingwood CI – gold in Automotive Service Technology (teacher-coach Kevin Dea)
