A shirt worn by Roger Hunt throughout England’s 1966 World Cup marketing campaign could fetch as much as £8,000 when it’s offered at auction.

The striker wore the long-sleeved white shirt against France in a group game on July 21 the place he scored each objectives in a 2-0 win.

Hunt was half of the crew that later lifted the World Cup when England beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley Stadium.

The signed shirt will go below the hammer at Henry Aldridge & Son auctioneers in Devizes, Wiltshire, on Saturday. Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge mentioned he was “delighted” to supply the lot “in this most important of World Cup weeks where England could end 60 years of hurt.”

Hunt spent most of his National Service time within the Devizes space and performed for Devizes Town throughout this time.

He lodged with a household within the space most weekends.

Aldridge added: “They became lifelong friends, visiting on regular occasions, and the shirt was given to the father after the World Cup.”

Hunt performed in each recreation through the 1966 World Cup and scored 3 times to assist England out of their group.
