In May, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students represented their faculties and the board, showcasing their information at national competitions centered on science and the skilled trades and know-how.
From May 23 to 30, 5 SCDSB students participated in the Canada-Wide Science Fair, representing Team Ontario. After two days of judging, STEM (science, know-how, engineering, and math) lab experiences on the University of Alberta, a STEM expo, and two days of public viewing, two SCDSB students have been honoured with bronze medals in their classes. The medal recipients are:
- Anne B. – Bear Creek SS, Petal to the Metal – utilizing Chlorella Algae to Remove Heavy Metals from Mining Runoff
- Jasper C. – Cookstown PS, Follow the Light


On May 28 and 29, two SCDSB students competed on the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), demonstrating their information and talent in their chosen classes. The SCNC is a multi-trade and know-how competitors for students and apprentices throughout Canada, the place qualifying individuals acquire hands-on work expertise and showcase their expertise in skilled commerce and know-how careers to a big panel of industry-recognized judges and employers. Two SCDSB students have been acknowledged with gold medals in their competitors areas:
- Peyton M-P., Banting Memorial HS – gold in Car Painting (teacher-coach Scott Fuller)
- Sam C., Collingwood CI – gold in Automotive Service Technology (teacher-coach Kevin Dea)
