Pantaloon Launches New Subscription Service Called the Playbill
Pantaloon's new subscription service offers a curated collection of indie games to fans, including Pantaloon's own titles.

Pantaloon, a publishing company that has made a name for itself in the gaming industry, has launched a new subscription service called the Playbill. This innovative platform offers fans of indie games a chance to access a curated collection of "bold and bizarre" titles.
The initial lineup features a diverse range of third-party games, including Buckshot Roulette, Silt, Ex Sanguis, and Cabin Factory. These are joined by Pantaloon's own games: Sub-Verge, Occlude, It Takes a War, Boxroom, Rolla, and the music creation sim Offbeat.
The Playbill service has drawn inspiration from Xbox Game Pass, with a focus on providing subscribers with access to a wide range of titles. Notably, the platform will feature all of Pantaloon's own games as soon as they are released, giving subscribers a chance to play them before anyone else.
Pantaloon's commitment to supporting its own games is evident in the fact that Virtue: Prologue, a visual novella companion piece for Virtue and a Sledgehammer, will be an exclusive title on the Playbill. This game is set to release next week, alongside Pantaloon's other titles.
The new subscription service from Pantaloon offers its users a unique experience by providing access to demos, playtests and abandoned prototypes through its Green Room section. This feature is currently showcasing playtests for several games, including Isle Goblin, Mr Magpie's Harmless Card Game and Lemonade Apocalypse.
Pantaloon's founder, Jamin Smith, emphasized that the Playbill aims to be a platform for celebrating experimental and eccentric games. By reducing the barrier to entry for players, the service allows them to discover new genres and experiences that might not otherwise be made available through traditional market-driven platforms like Steam.
The company has leveraged its existing audience of over 50,000 newsletter subscribers to build a publishing business. These subscribers had previously been able to complete puzzles to receive game keys or pay for codes for curated titles. Now, the same puzzles are free to access on the Playbill, along with community features such as Virtue: Prologue and ARGs.
The full lineup of games is available through Primo subscription, which costs $5 per month or $60 per year. This affordable pricing model makes it accessible for players to explore Pantaloon's evolving collection of 'bold and bizarre' indie games without breaking the bank.
The subscription service's key-based system means that games will be cycled in and out of the collection on a regular basis. When a game runs out of keys, it will be removed from the Playbill, making way for new titles to be added.
Monthly subscribers have a different experience than their annual counterparts. They are guaranteed one new game each month, but won't get to choose which title they receive. Instead, these games are part of bespoke partnerships, as revealed by Smith in an interview.
After six consecutive months of subscribing monthly, users will gain access to the entire collection of 14 titles, including all the initial lineup and any new additions. This mechanism is in place to prevent subscribers from taking advantage of the system by signing up, receiving all the games at once, and then cancelling their subscription.
