Paris (NCS) — It was the photograph of a beloved one no one desires to obtain.
When the associate of a 35-year-old Justice of the Peace in France checked his telephone final week, he noticed an image of his associate accompanied by a stark warning: pay a ransom in cryptocurrency or we’ll mutilate her.
The man – an affiliate in a start-up that has cryptocurrency actions – reported the demand to French police on Thursday morning, sparking a multi-agency manhunt involving as many as 160 officers, native authorities mentioned.
The Justice of the Peace and her aged mom have been held for 30 hours in a storage in southern France’s Drôme area earlier than escaping, based on NCS affiliate BFMTV.
The case renews give attention to the current rise in crypto-linked kidnappings in France and elsewhere, typically involving high-profile people and these linked to them. In France, the mom and daughter duo managed to flee from the storage in the municipality of Bourg-lès-Valence with out a ransom being paid, assisted by a neighbor, Lyon prosecutor Thierry Dran mentioned Friday in a press convention.
“They were able to take advantage of the absence of their captor to free themselves, to call for help, in particular by banging forcefully on the garage door,” Dran mentioned. “Alerted by the noise, a neighbor then intervened. He was able to open the door and thus allow our two victims to escape.”
The unnamed man who found the 2 girls informed native media they have been grateful for his intervention.
“I just came to take my car when I heard women hitting and screaming. I opened the door and two women came out; they were a little dirty. I was happy, they said thank you,” he informed BFMTV.
The girls have been instantly transported to hospital, Dran mentioned.
On Sunday, six folks have been arrested in relation to the kidnapping, together with a minor, based on BFMTV. The foremost suspects are in their twenties and have been arrested in the cities of Lyon and Chambéry, the outlet mentioned.
Crypto extremely traceable, specialists say
The latest kidnapping follows related incidents in France linked to the world of cryptocurrency – both as a result of people concerned or the forex of the ransom.

Later in 2025, the daughter of the CEO of French cryptocurrency platform Paymium was saved by passers-by from a daylight kidnapping try in Paris.
