OMAHA, Neb (WOWT) – Matt Rhule and 4 Nebraska football gamers made the trek to Omaha Thursday for Rhule’s inaugural youth football camp in partnership with FlexWork Sports, which was held on the sphere at Blackburn Alternative School.
Junior large receiver Demitrius Bell, senior large receiver Roman Mangini, senior defensive lineman Dylan Parrot and sophomore linebacker Derek Wacker participated as coaches on the occasion.
“I thought it was a great opportunity to come give back to the community, give back to the kids,” Wacker mentioned. “Being from Nebraska, I’ve gone to camps like this, I understand how cool it is to see a Nebraska player, the coach, so it’s a lot of fun to come do again. It’s like a full circle moment for me.”
Wacker is from Yutan and mentioned all of the gamers acquired private invites from Rhule for the camp in March.
“A lot of the former players when I was younger, they gave a lot of hope to me,” he mentioned. “Seeing these guys that have came from where I came from, and now they’re living the dream. Now that I’ve got to do that, I’ve got to share it back to these kids as well.”
Hundreds of campers ages 6 to 13 attended, working drills and getting a photograph with Rhule.
“We really wanted to make sure it was something special for coach Rhule,” mentioned Grayson Sheppard, operations coordinator for FlexWork Sports. “Get him out here with the kids, let him interact with the families and stuff like that, pour into the kids, teach them drills, just hang out and have fun with him all day.”
