But issues started to unravel halfway by the 2025 season because the 49ers voided Aiyuk’s ensures, citing “lack of participation.” Aiyuk did not file a grievance but has apparently not returned to the team since. The 49ers subsequently placed him on the reserve/left squad list in mid-December.
More recently, Aiyuk has been making a series of rather odd posts on social media asserting that he is going to be playing for the Commanders for sure and making vague posts about players and organizations across the NFL. Many followers have grown involved that he has developed CTE or another form of psychological challenge.

Regardless, it appears clear that Aiyuk will not be part of the 49ers in 2026 or past. Whether he is part of another group will probably hinge on his personal selections transferring ahead.
