The interim president of Howard University stated over 200 of the more than 500 first-year incoming students who have been unenrolled for the fall semester have been readmitted to the Washington, D.C. faculty.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, Wayne A. I. Frederick defended the way in which the traditionally Black college dealt with the preliminary unenrollment, saying many students and their households apparently misunderstood the communicated monetary obligations they have been anticipated to satisfy earlier than the beginning of instruction in August.
“There were no issues as far as what we communicated,” Frederick stated, including that the varsity had been clear since March about unpaid balances for tuition that have been due by mid-July.
Students who have been unenrolled for monetary causes had excellent tuition balances after their monetary assist and scholarships have been utilized, he stated. Others have been unenrolled due to unreported immunizations.
“I don’t think it’s just a simple matter of right or wrong. I think Howard adhered to its policies or procedures,” Frederick stated.
