The European Union and Nigeria opened negotiations for a bilateral science and expertise cooperation agreement, with the purpose of boosting cooperation on analysis and innovation.

A bilateral EU-Nigeria science and expertise cooperation agreement would supply a political framework to evaluate previous cooperation, talk about classes learnt and collectively decide future actions, in line with the precedence areas of the bilateral cooperation and the multilateral 10-year African Union (AU)-EU Innovation Agenda.

Negotiations passed off in parallel with the second EU-Nigeria Science and Innovation Day (24 February) in Lagos. Science and Innovation Day brings collectively researchers, entrepreneurs, buyers and policymakers to have fun the vibrancy of EU-Nigeria cooperation.

Over the previous few years, EU-Nigeria’s cooperation on science, expertise and innovation has been rising progressively. Some of the achievements embrace Nigeria’s rising participation in the Horizon Europe framework program and in the Global Health European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership 3.

In Horizon Europe, 55 tasks involving Nigerian entities have acquired grants to this point, largely in well being, meals, agriculture and surroundings. These contain 65 participations by Nigerian organisations, benefitting from a finances of €20 million ($33.32 million).

A complete of 15 Nigeria-based organisations take part in these tasks, receiving €9 million.

The EU has bilateral science and expertise cooperation agreements with 5 African nations, together with Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia.
