Cuban Authorities Confirm Confessions from Men Who Attempted to Enter Country by Force
A group of men of Cuban origin, who reside in the US, have confessed and cooperated with investigators after attempting to enter Cuba's territorial waters.

Cuban authorities have announced that men captured in February after attempting to enter the country by force from the United States have confessed and cooperated with investigators. The group of individuals was apprehended following a confrontation with Cuban coast guards off the northern coast.
Forensic examinations revealed that the seized weapons and explosives were powerful and operational, underscoring the potential severity of the incident. Col. Francisco Estrada Portales, an official from the Interior Ministry's State Security department, confirmed that the men have provided investigators with crucial information in their inquiry.
The men, who are of Cuban origin but reside in the United States, could face terrorism-related charges under Cuba's penal code for possessing and using deadly devices and explosives. These offenses can carry severe penalties, including the death penalty, although prosecutors have not yet requested specific sentences in this case.
A speedboat carrying 10 men from the US had attempted to enter Cuban waters on February 25, leading to a confrontation with coast guards that resulted in three fatalities and one additional fatality later due to injuries sustained.
A wounded Cuban coast guard captain was among those affected by the recent armed incursion into Cuban waters. In addition to the fatalities and injuries reported earlier, authorities have made further arrests in connection with the incident.
One individual on land has been apprehended for allegedly providing support to the group that attempted to enter Cuba's territorial waters. This development comes as tensions between Cuba and the United States continue to escalate.
Cuba's Interior Ministry had previously displayed a range of equipment seized from the suspects, including rifles, handguns, explosives, medical supplies, food, and communication devices. The authorities have stated that these items were in good working condition and ready for use in causing harm.
According to investigators, confessions from the suspects have revealed key details about their actions, including who fired the first shots. A Cuban national living in the United States since 2016 has been identified as having played a significant role in the incident.
Cuba has released video recordings of statements made by suspects involved in the armed incursion, which show the group's intentions to spark a rebellion against the government.
The detained suspect Leordan Cruz is also listed as a terrorist on Cuba's list, and according to the recordings, he stated that the group aimed to secure an area and encourage Cubans to overthrow the government. Despite sharing their findings with the United States, Cuban authorities have yet to receive a response from American officials as of Monday.
