Cho Wan-kyu, the first president of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (photograph), who laid the basis for scientific analysis in Korea, handed away on the thirteenth. He was 98. The funeral might be strictly held as the “葬 of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology.”

Former director Cho is a scientist and educator who pioneered the subject of fundamental biology in Korea. He served as the 18th president of Seoul National University, the thirty second Minister of Education, and the first president of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, contributing to the growth of science and expertise and training.

He was the epitome of a first-generation Korean scientist, innovation-challenged researcher, and a wonderful administrator. He based the Korea Bio Industry Association and led the science and expertise management by serving as the president of the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Organizations.

He is survived by his spouse Hong Sung-hyun, two sons and one daughter (Jo Jin-won, professor emeritus at Yonsei University, Jo In-sook, president of the Korea Institute of Finance and Industry), and son-in-law Yoon Byung-woo, professor emeritus at Seoul National University Medical School. The mortuary is at Seoul National University Hospital’s funeral corridor No. 1, the coffin is at 7 a.m. on the sixteenth, and the burial web site is Xi’an Memorial Park.
