In an unprecedented transfer, China has positioned a Polish university alongside defence contractors on an export management record targeting entities linked to the European safety sector.

Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (PWr) was amongst 14 European Union entities added to a dual-use export management record by the Chinese commerce ministry on Friday.

The ministry stated the additions, efficient instantly, had been in response to EU sanctions imposed on Thursday towards 14 mainland Chinese and Hong Kong firms over alleged hyperlinks to Russia.

The university stated it had not obtained any formal notification from Beijing.

“We are unable to comment on this matter as we have not yet received any official information. We still need to verify this,” PWr stated in a assertion on Friday.

While Beijing didn’t say why it had singled out PWr, the university’s defence analysis footprint and institutional ties with China supply clear clues.
