VIT Launches Centre of Excellence in Medical Technology to Advance Indigenous Medical Device Manufacturing

The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has formally inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Medical Technology, a part of its School of Healthcare Science and Engineering.

The centre was inaugurated by Sanjay Behari, Director of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), alongside Professor Joseph Vettukattil, Director of the Institute of Advanced Medical Research and Innovation (IAMRAI), which collaborated on the mission.

Equipped with two state-of-the-art medical-grade braiding machines valued at roughly ₹2 crore, the centre will facilitate the indigenous manufacturing of superior cardiovascular units utilizing nitinol wire, important for procedures akin to angioplasty and stent implantation.
