A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the University of Pennsylvania to comply with a subpoena from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission seeking a list of members of its Jewish community in what the federal authorities says is an effort to fight antisemitism on the Ivy League campus.

The college had fought the subpoena, which brought on alarm amongst Jews on campus. Several instructed NCS the federal government’s quest for a list of names, telephone numbers and mailing addresses of Jewish individuals felt like an invasion of privateness and evoked haunting historic comparisons.

NCS has reached out to the college for remark. The EEOC declined to remark, referring NCS to the judge’s opinion.
