African University of Science and Technology, on Wednesday in Abuja, advocated bridging the gap between research and coverage within the science and expertise sector.

The convention, organised by the college in partnership with different stakeholders, is scheduled to be held from October 21 to 23 in Abuja.
He mentioned that the communication gap had restricted the impression of scientific advances.

First, we are bringing together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, the media , educators, and the public on a single platform to chart a new course.
“Our focus will be on breaking barriers of technical language, strengthening partnerships, training a new generation of science communicators, and advocating policies that institutionalise science communication in Nigeria,” Mr Okolo-Obi mentioned.
According to him, science and expertise are universally acknowledged because the engines of financial development and social progress.
He mentioned that globally, nations had embraced science-driven growth, which was main to developments in well being, agriculture, vitality, digital transformation, and industrialisation.
“Nigeria is not being left behind in terms of research output. Our universities and research institutes continue to produce ground-breaking research findings. Yet, many of the discoveries remain locked away in technical journals, inaccessible to industries, policymakers, and indeed, the citizens who need them the most,” Mr Okolo-Obi mentioned.
The president of the college, Azikiwe Onwualu, acknowledged that the convention would intention to strengthen partnerships amongst stakeholders within the sector. He mentioned the convention was convened to change public notion about research in greater establishments and research institutes.
Mr Onwualu mentioned the final word aim was to be certain that research findings have been used for growth functions, whether or not in enterprise or authorities.
