At least two individuals have been killed after a car drove by means of a crowd in the jap German metropolis of Leipzig, native police mentioned Monday.

Two different individuals have been severely injured and have been taken to hospital, whereas 20 extra have been “affected,” in line with Axel Schuh, the top of Leipzig’s hearth brigade.

A big emergency service presence is on the scene, Schuh mentioned.

Meanwhile, German police mentioned the suspected driver of the car, who’s male, has been arrested and “no longer poses a threat.”

“A police operation is currently underway in downtown Leipzig,” police posted on X. “Please keep emergency routes clear and follow the instructions of the emergency personnel on site.”

The metropolis’s mayor, Burkhard Jung, mentioned the motive of the suspected perpetrator is unclear at this stage. “There is no further danger,” he mentioned.
