The Trump administration has frozen about $18 billion for infrastructure initiatives in New York City to make sure that funding is just not “flowing based mostly on unconstitutional DEI rules,” a prime official stated Wednesday.
The funding is earmarked for the Hudson River Tunnel Project and the Second Avenue Subway mission, stated Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought.
Vought introduced the freeze in posts on the social media website X.
“Roughly $18 billion in New York City infrastructure projects have been put on hold to ensure funding is not flowing based on unconstitutional DEI principles,” Vought wrote.
DEI refers to range, fairness and inclusion insurance policies, which have grow to be a goal for the Trump administration.
It was not instantly clear what triggered the freeze on that foundation.
“More info to come soon from @USDOT,” Vought added, referring to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Vought’s announcement got here on the primary day of the shutdown of the U.S. authorities after Congress didn’t go stopgap funding payments that will have stored federal businesses and companies working at regular capability for no less than one other seven weeks.
