Three graduate college students from Seoul National University’s College of Engineering have received the Future Marine Science and Technology Award.

The school stated Monday that the three college students acquired the award on the “2026 Joint Conference of the Korean Association of Ocean Science and Technology Societies,” lately held on the International Convention Center (ICC) in Jeju.

The Future Marine Science and Technology Award was established by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korean Association of Ocean Science and Technology Societies to determine excellent presenters of educational papers within the marine science and know-how subject and to help the expansion of next-generation researchers.

In the marine know-how class, Baek Seung-jun, a doctoral candidate within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (suggested by Professor Park Yong-sung), and Jang Chang-hwan, a doctoral graduate within the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (suggested by Professor Kim Do-kyun), have been chosen for the Grand Award and the Excellence Award, respectively. Baek received for his paper “A Study on the Settling Velocity of Weakly Inertial Particles in Vertical Flow,” whereas Jang received for his paper “Advanced Techniques for Hull Girder Load Adjustment: Part 1, Generalization.”

In the marine science class, Song Seung-woo, a mixed grasp’s-doctoral pupil within the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (suggested by Professor Kim Do-kyun), acquired the Excellence Award for his paper “Digitalization of Marine Safety: Innovation in Hull Structural Integrity Assessment through Inherent Deformation Mode-Based Transformation Algorithms.” In addition, Jeon Jae-yoon and Hwang Won-jae, each undergraduate college students within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seoul National University, have been named on the Special Award checklist.

“We will continue to strengthen research and education in engineering fields closely related to the ocean, including ships and marine structures, the marine environment, and coastal and urban infrastructure, to lead a sustainable marine future,” a College of Engineering official stated.
