Old Marylebone Town Hall
Ringo Starr, Sir Paul McCartney and Liam Gallagher are among the many huge names who bought hitched at Old Marylebone Town Hall. Known for its dramatic stairway entrance, stone columns and marble lion sculptures, that is arguably one among London’s prettiest town halls.
You can choose from seven ceremony rooms too, with the biggest, Westminster Room, becoming 100 seated friends, or the Soho Room, 13.
Like Dua Lipa, Olivia Morelli, Condé Nast Traveller’s digital features editor, selected it for her wedding ceremony. Growing up in London, she went to highschool close to Baker Street, and would usually see “happy newlyweds running through the streets of Marylebone, grinning widely, looking incredibly chic and looking so in love”.
“So naturally, when I’d daydream of getting married myself, it looked something like that. Marylebone Town Hall, with its impressive facade, Corinthian columns and stone lions, is about as elegant as town halls come,” she says.
“Inside, marble staircases lead to a corridor lined with all the rooms – each with a different feel, but all with dark wooden panelling and yawning fireplaces.” She opted for a small civil ceremony with family, before heading to The Italian Greyhound, a local restaurant close by, for drinks and lunch.
“The sun was shining, and London was at its springtime best, with peachy pink blossom floating in the wind and crisp blue skies. It was exactly as I’d imagined it as a kid – wide smiles and all.”
Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton
Brixton is pleased with its Grade II-listed Lambeth Town Hall – an Edwardian constructing courting again to 1908. You can choose from its three Mayor’s Heritage Suites, with marble fireplaces and conventional parquet flooring. These could be joined as much as seat seated friends. Alternatively, the Pauline Room is a vibrant, floral area that may match 20 friends, while the blue-hued Bowie Room has area for 10.
