The African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE)- MMUST Chapter, yesterday, 10th November 2022, continued with the STEM mentorship program and their mission of guaranteeing that feminine college students don’t miss their courses due to menstrual cycle by donating sanitary pads. This was patent throughout AWSE’s outreach exercise to Mwiyala Secondary School – Kakamega, on tenth November 2022. The Sanitary Pads Campaign is a key program that can actually inhibit absenteeism amongst feminine college students.
As a part of the greening initiative, the AWSE-MMUST Chapter carried out a tree planting train on the School grounds which was led by the Chief Guest Mr. John Kibet Tirop who planted a few seedlings with the women whereas the boys planted with the AWSE Chairperson Dr. Selline Ooko. Tree planting train is considered one of AWS’s initiatives to guarantee extra bushes are planted and the setting is stored inexperienced. The group, led by Dr. Seline Ooko donated sanitary pads to the feminine college students on the faculty and gave a profession discuss whose fundamental focus was on science-oriented topics. “The girl child needs to be empowered to aim high in their studies and also put in effort in STEM-related subjects. MMUST is determined to support any efforts towards popularizing STEM subjects,” she stated.
The Principal, of Mwiyala Secondary School, Ms. Jaqueline Wamwayi conveyed her appreciation to MMUST for selecting Mwiyala Secondary School for his or her outreach exercise. “I am so exhilarated that you identified us among the many schools in Kakamega County. We are so blessed to have you. This is a timely venture that will transform our students for better performance,” she stated.

Two scholar representatives who spoke after this significant train attested to the good information that they had gained from the session. They expressed delight to the MMUST fraternity for being aware of their futures. Similarly, the boys weren’t ignored, they acquired branded INWES/AWSE pens from the AWSE group.
“We are glad to have you in our school. Some of us were on the verge of giving up because we did not know what to do. We did have someone to encourage us. Indeed, this is an appropriate undertaking that will turn around our lives due to better performances that we shall have,” they stated

Other notable personalities on the occasion included Mwiyala Secondary School Board Member, Beatrice Barasa, MMUST’s Dr. Fridah Njeru, Dr. Annette Okoth, Dr. Mary Gorretty Kariaga, Ms. Judy Dipondo, Ms. Purity Muchere and MMUST college students who’re STEM ambassadors.
The STEM ambassadors, who’re MMUST college students pursuing Science associated programs, mentored the scholars each in the group and at particular person ranges. They inspired the scholars to select topics in the direction of STEM and mentored the learners on how to take care of tutorial challenges and social challenges

Such initiatives expose college students to experiential and inquiry-based studying alternatives outdoors of the classroom to increase college students’ curiosity in STEM. Effective Science outreach of this nature is enjoyable and rewarding, and it’s what society enormously wants presently!
