Buenos Aires has many epithets, however none are fairly as becoming as “the Paris of the South”—particularly whenever you enterprise in direction of the elegant café- and park-strewn barrios of Retiro and Recoleta. It’s right here, in the center of Calle Arroyo, that Spanish resort group Unico has unveiled Casa Lucía. Housed in the Edificio Mihanovich—a 20-story neoclassical icon that was the tallest constructing in South America when it opened in 1928—the resort has emerged from a top-to-toe renovation the place porteño glamour seeps into each area. There’s the light-flushed atrium foyer, coated by a glass roof that connects two seven-story wings of the unique constructing, in addition to a spa and a 52-foot pool flanked by mirrors. Just off the central atrium is Cantina Restaurant, the place the steaks would impress a hungry gaucho, and Le Club Bacan, an intimate lounge bar serving up tapas, louche sounds, and greater than 400 wines chosen by grasp sommelier Aldo Garcia. Rooms are spacious and fashionable, with a cool palette of gray-greens; many have exterior balconies with solar loungers and out of doors showers affording vast views over the town to the Río de la Plata. It all seems like a soothing embrace in a metropolis that—for higher or worse—typically skews on the facet of chaos. —Stanley Stewart
