Sri Lanka’s first Technology Incubation Centre beneath a nationwide program led by the Ministry of Science and Technology was formally opened final week at the University of Vavuniya.

Science and Technology Minister Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena and Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Sunil Handunneththi officiated at the opening ceremony.

The centre goals to advertise entrepreneurship, innovation, analysis commercialisation, and startup growth within the Northern Province. It has been collectively established by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Vidatha Program, in collaboration with the University of Vavuniya.

The Vidatha Program focuses on transferring know-how and modern data to rural communities, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises. As half of its enlargement, Technology Incubation Centres are being established at state universities nationwide, with 24 centres deliberate throughout the island.

The initiative is predicted to strengthen innovation-driven enterprises, enhance product and repair high quality, and improve entry to each native and worldwide markets.

Coinciding with the opening, a science, know-how, and innovation exhibition was held at the premises, that includes main analysis establishments, universities, and corporations, and was open to the general public free of cost.

Additionally, 172 Young Inventors Clubs and college science societies had been established throughout Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar districts to foster creativity and STEM engagement amongst college students.

The occasion was attended by Members of Parliament, senior authorities officers, college representatives, entrepreneurs, college students, and members of the general public.
