Former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley informed NCS’s Dana Bash on State of the Union on Sunday, April 12, 2026, she would not be within the 2028 presidential main conversations.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley appears to have ruled out a 2028 White House run.
Haley, while speaking Sunday on NCS’s State of the Union, told host Dana Bash she won’t seek the Republican nomination for president in 2028.
Haley was on the show discussing foreign policy including the ongoing war with Iran, negotiations with that country and the need to confront China over its support for the Middle Eastern nation.
Bash also asked Haley if she thought Vice President JD Vance should be the 2028 Republican nominee for president.
“I think it’s too soon to tell. I think that primaries are healthy. I think a year is a lifetime in politics. I think we’ll be having a different conversation a year from now,” Haley said. “Who’s going to be in that I have no idea.”
Bash asked Haley if she would be in that primary conversation.
“I will not,” Haley responded.
Haley, the former ambassador to the United Nations during President Donald Trump’s first term, was the last standing GOP contender against Trump in the 2024 cycle.
She dropped out of the race after Super Tuesday. Haley won the nominating contests in Washington, D.C. and Vermont. At that point, Trump had won the other 23 contests, including South Carolina.
