The authorities has arrange a global joint analysis hub for quantum expertise at POSTECH.
The Ministry of Science and ICT on June 9 held a gap ceremony for the “POSTECH Quantum Global Partnership Lead Center” at Pohang University of Science and Technology. Attendees included officers from North Gyeongsang Province and town of Pohang, and home and abroad researchers together with Gil-ho Lee (이길호), a POSTECH professor, Philip Kim (필립 김), a Harvard University professor, and Lyeong Chuan Kwek (리옹 추안 퀙), a professor on the Singapore Centre for Quantum Technologies.
The occasion featured a presentation of the center’s working plan, a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between POSTECH and Harvard, and an alternate of cooperation letters between POSTECH and the Singapore Centre for Quantum Technologies.
The lead center goals to develop applied sciences to generate and management large-scale quantum entanglement by linking heterogeneous quantum platforms by way of cooperation amongst main home and abroad universities within the quantum discipline. The mission interval runs from July 2025 to December 2029, and 22.3 billion gained will be投入.
Quantum entanglement is a key factor that determines the efficiency of quantum data applied sciences reminiscent of quantum computing, quantum communications and quantum sensing. Quantum expertise is at the moment being researched throughout varied platforms together with photonics, superconductivity, atoms and ions, quantum dots, and solid-state quantum techniques. Each platform has strengths and limitations, growing the necessity for analysis that hyperlinks them in a complementary method.
Centered on POSTECH, the lead center will construct a global joint analysis platform involving home researchers from Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, in addition to abroad analysis establishments together with Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Singapore Centre for Quantum Technologies.
Through this, it plans to put the groundwork for core analysis on next-generation quantum expertise by combining semiconductor and optical communications-based applied sciences through which South Korea has strengths with quantum platform analysis capabilities at main abroad establishments.
The center will pursue joint analysis linking varied quantum platforms reminiscent of superconducting and semiconductor qubits, photonics-based quantum computer systems, and ultracold gasoline quantum simulations. In explicit, it plans to safe next-generation core quantum part applied sciences reminiscent of multi-qubit entanglement, quantum mild sources, quantum error mitigation and error correction, and quantum machine studying by combining the strengths of various bodily techniques, together with low-dimensional quantum supplies, phonon resonators, quantum dots, van der Waals atomic-layer supplies, and photonic built-in circuits.
The center plans to domesticate expertise in quantum data gadgets, quantum computing, quantum optics and quantum supplies by dispatching home graduate college students and postdoctoral researchers to main abroad analysis establishments and thru joint analysis initiatives, common worldwide workshops and researcher exchanges.
Yoon Kyung-sook (윤경숙), director common for Basic and Fundamental Research Policy on the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “The government will continue to support cooperation between the excellent research capabilities of domestic universities and leading overseas institutions to advance the cooperation ecosystem in the field of quantum technology.”
