Science and Technology Academy (Sci-Tech) custodian Maria De Mora has been recognized as the Woodland Joint Unified School District’s 2025 Classified Employee of the Year for Custodial and Maintenance Services.

Each yr, WJUSD participates in the Yolo County School Boards Association (YCSBA) Awards for Excellence in Education, which honor excellent educators, workers, and packages from college districts and schools all through Yolo County. De Mora obtained her award throughout YCSBA’s annual ceremony on Sept. 29 at Woodland Community College.

“My reaction was one of surprise,” De Mora stated. “It’s an honor to receive this recognition and represent my fellow custodians of WJUSD.”

De Mora has labored as a custodian for 17 years, together with six years with WJUSD. She spent one yr as a substitute custodian, one yr at Whitehead Elementary School, and the previous 5 years at Sci-Tech.

“The best part of my job is seeing the happy faces of students enjoying a clean and safe school,” De Mora stated. “It’s an honor to be part of WJUSD, working with wonderful people who are here to make sure all students have success in their education.”

Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin stated De Mora’s recognition displays the vital position labeled staff play in supporting pupil studying day by day.

“Maria’s dedication, pride in her work, and genuine care for students embody the heart of our District,” stated Ortega-Lampkin. “Our schools thrive because of employees like Maria, who ensure students have a safe and clean environment to learn each and every day.”
