Roblox on Friday introduced new short-video and AI features that come amid rising lawmaker scrutiny into how the corporate protects kids on its platform.
With Roblox Moments, customers 13 and older will be capable to create and share video clips of their gameplay with others on a feed inside the platform. The synthetic intelligence additions, in the meantime, will permit customers to generate superior 3D objects for the video games they create on the platform.

Although customers can share video clips from mature video games on Moments, customers who don’t meet the age necessities of these experiences will likely be unable to view them, the corporate mentioned. Roblox will average every video shared on Moments and can permit customers to “flag content that they find is inappropriate,” mentioned Matt Kaufman, Roblox safety chief. Moments is launching in a restricted launch on Friday.
The AI features will roll out to customers earlier than the tip of the yr. Roblox customers will be capable to use the synthetic intelligence instruments to create objects, like futuristic monster vehicles, that match the aesthetics of the video games customers construct on the platform, mentioned Anupam Singh, Roblox’s senior vice chairman of engineering. Those creations will even be moderated, Kaufman mentioned.
Roblox faces various lawsuits alleging that its design allows on-line predators to take advantage of underage victims.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill sued Roblox in August, alleging the corporate fails to implement strong safety protocols to “protect child users from predators.” At the time, Roblox said, “any assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is simply untrue.”
The firm on Wednesday announced it will broaden an age estimation program that Roblox debuted in July.
