Prep sports weekend: Churchill, North Eugene face key test; 1A titans clash

Churchill at North Eugene, 7 p.m. Friday

Two 5A groups on the playoff bubble face off in a sport that might enhance the winner’s postseason odds. North Eugene (4-2 general, 3-1 in league) is third in Special District 4, with Churchill (3-2 general, 2-1 league) proper behind in fourth place.

Churchill’s remaining schedule — with South Eugene and Eagle Point developing — may very well be simpler sledding than North Eugene’s remaining video games in opposition to Crater and Thurston. 

Eddyville Charter at Triangle Lake, 7 p.m. Friday

The two top-ranked groups within the state’s 1A-six participant ranks battle in a sport that might determine the Special District 2 title. On paper, the Lakers (No. 1 within the Oregon School Activities Association rankings) and the Eagles (No. 2) appear evenly matched: Both are 5-0 general, 2-0 in league. Triangle Lake has scored 215 factors this season and has given up simply 44. Eddyville has posted comparable numbers: It’s scored 234 factors and allowed 45.

Girls soccer sport of the week

South Eugene at Sheldon, 5 p.m. Monday

The two front-runners for the Southwest Conference lead meet in a key league match Monday afternoon as South Eugene (7-2-2 general, 6-1-2 in league) travels to Sheldon (9-1-1 general, 6-1-1 in league). The Axe, No. 12 within the OSAA rankings, beat the Irish 2-1 at house Sept. 15, however No. 9 Sheldon might have an edge at house within the rematch.
