Covington Catholic is the primary excessive school in the Diocese of Covington that may add boys volleyball to its record of interscholastic sports activities and is now looking for a qualified coach to start the program.

When the Kentucky High School Athletic Association sponsored the primary sanctioned playoffs for boys volleyball final spring, 5 Northern Kentucky groups have been among the many 59 listed in the ultimate state rankings. CovCath plans to be a part of them for the 2026-27 season.

“Like every sport we sponsor, we will hold this program to high standards,” mentioned CovCath athletic director Tony Bacigalupo. “We have high expectations for volleyball, both in terms of competitiveness and in building young men of character through the experience.”

The alignment for the upcoming 2025 spring season has Boone County, Calvary Christian, Dayton, Ryle, Scott, Simon Kenton and Walton-Verona among the many 11 boys volleyball groups in Region 6.

Last year, Ryle misplaced in the primary spherical of the inaugural state match and completed with a 22-5 document.

Football awards acknowledge CovCath coach, Ryle participant

Two soccer awards drew consideration to that sport throughout these late winter months when basketball season is in full gear.

Covington Catholic’s former head soccer coach Lynn Ray shall be inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame in April. During his 30-year run, the Colonels gained 5 state championships and compiled a 234-132 document. Ray was a three-sport athlete at Boone County High School and performed soccer at Eastern Kentucky University.

Ryle senior Jacob Savage gained the “That’s My Boy” Award as the highest student-athlete in Northern Kentucky excessive school soccer final season. The Indiana University recruit rushed for 1,222 yards, scored 29 touchdowns and made 112 tackles in his senior season.

Savage is already attending school, however he plans to graduate with the Ryle senior class this spring. He was on campus when Indiana gained the NCAA championship in January.

Two native groups have prime coaches in ladies basketball

Davey Johnson of Campbell County and Ted Arlinghaus of Holy Cross are among the many Coach of the Year winners in ladies basketball chosen by members of the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.

Johnson gained the tenth Region award. Campbell County will enter subsequent week’s area match with a 21-6 document after successful the thirty seventh District title. The Camels have been ranked No. 13 in the ultimate statewide media ballot.

Arlinghaus is the ninth Region winner. Holy Cross gained the All “A” Classic state championship and completed the common season with a 25-4 document. The Indians have been ranked No. 12 in the ultimate media ballot.

Jake Thelen of Covington Catholic was named ninth Region Coach of the Year is boys basketball by the KABC. His group was ranked No. 2 in the statewide media ballot after ending the common season with a 26-2 document.
