FIRST SALT R&D IN THE PHILIPPINES
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum and Pangasinan State University (PSU) President Dr. Elbert Galas inaugurated the Philippines’ first salt analysis and growth facility on Tuesday on the PSU campus in Binmaley, Pangasinan.
The Accelerating Salt Research and Innovation (ASIN) Center, established underneath the DOST’s Niche Centers within the Regions for Research and Development (NICER) Program, obtained P93 million in funding from DOST and a P22-million counterpart from PSU. The heart will drive salt-associated analysis and growth, aiming to realize nationwide salt self-sufficiency, modernize conventional manufacturing techniques, and promote local weather-resilient sustainable practices.
