TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The proprietor of Agenda Sports Bar and Grill spoke publicly for the first time since a Judge declared the bar a nuisance and ordered the doorways shut for a yr.

He took his considerations to the Toledo City Council.

And he wasn’t alone; some Black Bar Owners took to the Toledo City Council, standing collectively to assist Agenda Sports Bar.

“I just think that we got to put something in place to make everything fair,” Sean Love, the proprietor mentioned.

Love mentioned the order to shut got here as a shock.

“I mean, we did everything we possibly could do, like far as having the police officers, having security, we got camera system and all that put in place prior to this,” he mentioned.

Before the order, two individuals had been killed down the road from the institution.

Judge Joseph Howe cited a sample of issues and decided the bar to be a public nuisance.

“It happened on the 6th, went to court on the 11th, had a hearing on the 4th and we closed down on the 13th of this month,” Love mentioned. “And all in 30 days, we’ve been open eight years and we got shut down for a year in 30 days.”

He added, there was no warning.

“We wasn’t given no warning, we weren’t on the cert-list, I mean we didn’t get nothing but just close down for a year,” he mentioned.

Councilmembers, together with District 6 Councilwoman Theresa Morris, whose district the bar is in, need extra consistency.

“I believe that there has been a different system when it comes to black owned establishments,” Morris mentioned.

At-Large Councilwoman Cerssandra McPherson mentioned, “There needs to be regulation and fairness.”

Last week, the City had no remark concerning the pressured closure of Agenda Sports Bar and Grill.

Councilmembers on the public security committee agreed to satisfy with the proprietor of the Agenda Bar, in addition to with different Black bar homeowners, to discuss the points they’re dealing with.
