Oklahoma State University College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology college
member Dr. Raj Singh, a Regents Professor in the School of Materials, Mechatronics
and Manufacturing Engineering, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering,
has been named a Big 12 Faculty of the Year Award honoree. The distinction acknowledges excellence in innovation, analysis and scholarly management
throughout the convention.
The Big 12 Faculty of the Year Award honors one excellent college member from every
member establishment who exemplifies the highest requirements of instructing, analysis and
tutorial management whereas advancing pupil success. Singh was chosen as OSU’s honoree
in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to supplies science and engineering
analysis and his longstanding dedication to educating and mentoring future engineers.
“Dr. Singh’s work displays the core of CEAT’s mission, advancing cutting-edge analysis
whereas making ready college students to unravel real-world challenges,” mentioned Hanchen Huang, dean
of CEAT. “His choice as Big 12 Faculty of the Year highlights the caliber of college
at Oklahoma State University and the impression they’ve domestically, nationally and globally.”
Singh’s analysis in supplies science and engineering helps innovation throughout a number of
industries, whereas his dedication to pupil studying and mentorship has helped form
the subsequent technology of engineers and researchers. His recognition underscores CEAT’s

“We are consistently searching for methods to focus on how Big 12 college proceed to coach
and encourage the subsequent technology of leaders,” Big 12 Chief Impact Officer Jenn Hunter
mentioned. “From the arts and filmmaking to enterprise and engineering, this yr’s cohort
showcases the huge alternatives out there to college students pursuing an training on Big
12 campuses.”
The award additionally displays the breadth of analysis excellence throughout the convention,
spanning disciplines from astronomy and psychology to engineering and the arts. Honorees
are nominated by their establishments in collaboration with college, athletics representatives,
provosts and college management. Singh joins a distinguished group of college members
acknowledged this yr, additional elevating the repute of OSU and CEAT for tutorial
excellence and innovation.
“I’m stunned, delighted, humbled, and grateful to the choice committee and people
accountable for their help for this most prestigious recognition and award,” Singh
mentioned.
Singh was the founding college head of the School of Materials Science and Engineering
at OSU–Tulsa. He earned his Doctor of Science diploma in ceramics from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology. He beforehand held positions at Argonne National Laboratory,
the GE Global Research Center and the University of Cincinnati earlier than becoming a member of OSU.
His analysis profession spans quite a few fields, together with nanostructured supplies, nanotubes
and nanorods, gas cell supplies, good ferroelectric supplies, and ceramic matrix
composites. Singh has authored greater than 350 analysis articles and holds 29 granted
patents, establishing him as a world-renowned professional in CMCs. He is well known
for inventing new supplies and growing novel processing strategies, making transformative
scientific and technological contributions to the discipline.
Singh pioneered the patented melt-infiltration course of for producing totally dense,
net-shape, damage-tolerant silicon carbide fiber-reinforced CMCs. This progressive
and inherently easy course of led to widespread commercialization by GE Aviation starting
in 2016. The know-how has gathered greater than 40 million flight hours in LEAP
engines utilized by Airbus, Boeing 737 and 777, and COMAC plane, marking the world’s
first business jet engines to include CMCs as structural turbine elements.
These developments have diminished engine weight, improved effectivity, lowered CO₂ and
NOx emissions, and enabled new multibillion-dollar industries, delivering vital
societal and financial advantages as a direct consequence of Singh’s pioneering work.
In 2024, Singh was elected to the NAE, one of the highest skilled honors for
engineers, in recognition of his lifetime contributions to supplies science and engineering.
Beyond his analysis achievements, Singh stays deeply dedicated to educating and
mentoring college students. He views mentorship as a cornerstone of his position, serving to college students
domesticate curiosity, creativity and a lifelong ardour for studying, making certain his
impression extends effectively past the laboratory and into the future of the engineering career.
“The better part of my job is to assist educate the absolute best engineers and impart
information of the self-discipline of supplies science and engineering,” Singh said. “I
need to encourage college students in the engineering discipline to be curious, persevering, artistic,
ingenious and keen about their discipline.
“Never overlook to be curious and ingenious. It must be a lifelong pursuit.”
