Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices have agreed to give the U.S. authorities a share of revenues from sure chips offered in China, the Financial Times reported, in an unprecedented association with the White House.
In alternate for 15% of revenues from the chip sales, the 2 chipmakers will obtain export licenses to promote Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308 chips in China, in accordance to the FT.
The association comes as President Donald Trump’s tariffs proceed to reverberate via the worldwide financial system, underscoring the White House’s willingness to carve out exceptions as a bargaining device.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with Trump final week, in accordance to the FT.
In an announcement, Nvidia instructed the Financial Times: “We follow rules the U.S. government sets for our participation in worldwide markets.”
Last week, Trump had mentioned he would implement a 100% tariff on imports of semiconductors and chips, until an organization was “building in the United States.”
