Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology held a two-day worldwide conference on ‘science and humanities for sustainable development’ on the college in Gazipur concluded on Friday.
The conference was inaugurated by the chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, Professor SMA Faiz, who joined the occasion just about on the Shaheed Shakil Parvez Auditorium of the college on Thursday, mentioned a press launch on Saturday.
The occasion was chaired by DUET vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Zoynal Abedin whereas pro-VC Professor Md Arefin Kowser attended the conference as particular visitor.
Rajshahi University VC Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC Professor AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury delivered keynote speeches on the occasion.
Professor SMA Faiz mentioned, ‘To build a knowledge-based and non-discriminatory society, engineering and technology must be linked with human values. This international conference of DUET is an important step towards that goal.’

Mentioning that now’s the time when engineers must learn about society and college students of humanities and social sciences want to know expertise, the VC mentioned, ‘We do not just want to produce skilled engineers; rather, we want to produce global citizens who will develop in ethical responsibility and social sensitivity along with technological excellence.’
