(NCS) — President Donald Trump on Thursday urged that Democratic lawmakers who urged service members and intelligence officers to disobey unlawful orders must be put to death, sparking an outcry amongst Democrats on Capitol Hill that the president was searching for to incite violence.

It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty,” the lawmakers stated partly.

“But this isn’t about any one of us. This isn’t about politics. This is about who we are as Americans. Every American must unite and condemn the President’s calls for our murder and political violence. This is a time for moral clarity.”

The Republican chief stated he interpreted Trump’s suggestion of punishment by death to be the president merely explaining sedition.

“What I read was he was defining the crime of sedition. That is a factual statement, but obviously attorneys have to parse the language and determine all that,” he instructed reporters.

The lawmakers who posted the video that sparked Trump’s response didn’t specify which orders service members obtained, or would possibly obtain, that may very well be unlawful. “No one has to carry out orders that violate the law, or our Constitution,” they stated, including, “Know that we have your back. … Don’t give up the ship.”
