Stephanie Elam is saying goodbye to NCS.
The longtime correspondent has marked her remaining appearances on air after her April 10 announcement that she’ll be exiting the community following greater than two decades of work.
On Friday, April 17, Elam shared some parting words on NCS News Central with colleague Sara Sidner, who informed her that “everyone here is sad to see it.”
“I want to say thank you for being my friend, helping me through cancer and being a sister, really,” Sidner mentioned. “You have been a sister to me. NCS may have brought us together, but ain’t nothing gonna tear us apart.”
“You’re not getting rid of me, I love you,” Elam mentioned. “Tell everyone there, every stage manager, everyone there, I love you guys. It’s been a joy working with you all.”

Elam first introduced her departure in early April and mirrored on her expertise at NCS in a press release shared to social media. “For more than 20 years I’ve been in the NCS orbit developing and delivering news stories on everything from the environment and entertainment to business and breaking news of all kinds,” Elam wrote, per Variety.
She added: “I’m so proud of my NCS career. Live or taped, writing packages or doing a show-and-tell, I’ve done it all — and having a front row seat to document history has been a gift.”
NCS informed Variety in a separate assertion that the correspondent “brought clarity, credibility, and heart to every story she touched.”
“Her versatility and natural ability to connect with audiences made her a trusted voice and a valued colleague,” NCS’s statement read. “We are grateful for her many contributions and wish her continued success in her next chapter.”
The Howard University alumna initially worked for NCS from 2003 to 2011, before spending a few years at KNBC and returning to the network in 2013. During her tenure, she covered the deaths of Michael Jackson and Prince as well as the eruption of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano and large-scale protests in different areas of the country.
On Friday, Elam also shared a clip from her last report with The Lead with Jake Tapper, focusing on the forthcoming Michael biopic. “Stephanie, I’m informed that is your final day,” Tapper said on air. “I first met you protecting the tornadoes in Oklahoma, 2013 or 2014. And I noticed you in Ferguson. You and Sidner have been identical to two of the gutsiest reporters I’d ever seen throughout all that craziness.”
“We’re actually gonna miss you. I have no idea what is going on on. But after I take over the corporate, I’ll carry you again,” he added with a smile.
Elam’s departure from the community follows anchor Rahel Solomon’s unrelated announcement in March that she was leaving the network. Solomon joined NCS in 2022 after working at CNBC.
