MORGANTOWN — During Paige Brink’s freshman season at Morgantown High, her staff fell to Musselman in the state championship. The Mohigans returned the following season when Brink was a sophomore, and captured the program’s first-ever state championship, avenging the loss by defeating Musselman for the title.

MHS returned to the championship match in 2024 however fell to Hedgesville in a five-set thriller throughout Brink’s junior season. Brink earned her second state championship this 12 months.

It marked her second state title with Morgantown in 4 years after the Mohigans’ 3-1 victory over the Eagles.

“Paige has always been such a reliable and steady leader,” MHS head coach Abigail Wolfe stated of the Class AAAA first staff all-state captain. “She always just does her thing and rises to the occasion when necessary. I think it has been a true blessing to watch her over the last four years because of how fearlessly she plays. She came into the season prepared to give it all and played that way until the very end.”

Brink’s teammate, Leah Greeny, joins her as a first-team choice. The sophomore completed 2025 simply as impressively as Brink, with 357 kills and a 49% hitting fee. She added 208 digs, 494 serve receptions, and 91 aces on 87% serving.

“It’s been fun to see Paige and Leah this season because they are statistically so similar in some aspects,” Wolfe stated. “At the OVAC break, I remember sending stats to Allison at Hedgesville, being dumbfounded with how similar they were. I think they had maybe one ace and five kills separating them. They really showed their own strengths toward the end of the season, with Leah having a time from the service line with 91 total aces and Paige having 241 digs.”

The Class AAAA runner-up, Hedgesville, landed a pair of first-team gamers, as seniors Parker Sutherland and Gracie Brown made the record.

Sutherland earned 353 kills, 89 blocks, 97 digs, and 29 assists. She added 69 aces from the service line at a 90% clip. Brown completed 2025 with 418 kills, 395 digs, and 436 serve receptions.

Two different seniors, Alycia Miller of Musselman and Jillian Yost from Cabell Midland, joined the first staff. Miller helped the Applemen to a semifinal run in 2025 at the libero place with 704 digs and 591 serve receptions. Yost had 1,025 assists with solely seven errors on the season.

Two extra sophomores made the first staff in Woodrow Wilson’s Mollie Smith and Hurricane’s Kiley Jones. Smith earned 343 kills, 56 blocks, and 76 digs in 2025. Jones completed her season tallying 500 kills, 132 blocks, and 76 digs.

The remaining two first-team spots had been earned by Parkersburg South senior Shyanne Hays, who completed 2025 with 485 kills, 326 digs, 97 blocks, and 69 aces, and the Mountain State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Kennedy Porter from Parkersburg. She tallied 391 kills, 145 digs, 98 blocks, and 55 aces.

Cabell Midland junior Katie Lawson captained the Class AAAA second-team, ending 2025 with 320 kills, 11 digs, and 99 blocks.

The relaxation of the second staff included Hedgesville senior Alexa Smith, Morgantown senior Kelly Ryan, Martinsburg senior Katie Zittie, George Washington senior Zoe Pray, Woodrow Wilson senior Anya Hasan, Cabell Midland senior Carley Brewster, Spring Mills junior McKenna Mullin, Hurricane junior Adalee McComas and University junior Avery Bland.
