ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A showdown is brewing in Rochester’s metropolis authorities over a regional sports complex.

Mayor Kim Norton vetoed two decisions Monday, made by the Rochester City Council on Dec. 8, surrounding contracts for town’s voter-approved complex.

“I’ve had concerns for the last two-and-a-half years about the process and how this went out, but it’s become very evident to me in talking to folks in the community and hearing their feedback that what is being proposed is not at all what they thought they were getting,” stated Norton.

The mayor stated she’s heard from constituents who’ve a difficulty with a number of features of the challenge. One is the situation, notably in relation to downtown Rochester.

“That sort of goes against the idea that we’re building it in order to fill our downtown hotels, restaurants and retail businesses,” stated Norton. “It’s not close enough in for that.”

She additionally stated the neighborhood is worried that voters aren’t getting what they requested for.

“I’m very concerned that we have selected something in the Minnesota climates that will only be able to be used for a portion of the year and that is not what the community thought they were getting for this,” she added.

Norton was additionally shocked by the dearth of assist for her place.

“I thought I had support and was quite surprised that I didn’t in the final vote,” stated Norton. “But it still was important to me to let the community know that I heard them. I do not support what is happening and it’s my job to represent their views. And so, this is the avenue I have to do it.”

The council will maintain an emergency session subsequent week to cope with the mayor’s veto. 5 votes are wanted to overturn the veto.
